General MYP Policies

Cell Phones

  • Cell phones must be kept in backpacks and are to be turned off.  
  • They are not to be used during the school day, including recesses, lunch, passing periods and at pick up time.  
  • Student/home communication should go through the office.
  • Misused cell phones will be confiscated and brought to the principal's office for a parent to pick up.  Future offenses will result in the student being required to use a daily office check in and out system with their cell phone.

Planners

  • Please check student planners for all homework assignments and projects. Students will be recording everyday in their planner.
  • Planners will be used to keep track of hall passes.
  • This tool is mandatory and will have a replacement cost if lost. ​

Bring Your Own Device 

Dress Code

  • No denim, mesh/sport pants, yoga pants, athletic shorts
  • Shorts and skirts must extend past the palm
  • Solid collar shirts
  • Outside outwear with appropriate designs
  • Fridays are free dress days
  • Mustang Wednesdays and spirit weeks (start dates TBD) must have visible theme wear and uniform bottoms (unless otherwise specified)
  • Students may wear flip flops but need athletic shoes for PE days
  • Students out of dress code will be loaned clothes for the day

Field Trips and Fingerprinting

Chaperones for field trips must be fingerprinted, meet district requirements, and undergo a criminal background check.

Forms for fingerprinting can be found in the LBCS office or online at the LUSD website found here

  • Students may bring their own electronic device (not a cell phone) such as a tablet or computer to school with an authorized “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD) form. These forms can be found from homeroom teachers or in the LBCS office
  • Each device must be used appropriately and is a privilege that can be revoked if our technology agreement is violated

LUSD Grading Policies

  • Assessments (summative and formative) shall account for no less than seventy-five percent (75%) of the student's grade during any given reporting period. This includes; tests, quizzes, essays, cumulative writing, presentations, projects, portfolios or labs completed at school.
  • Homework shall account for no more than ten percent (10%) of the student's grade during any given reporting period.
  • Classwork/Practice may account for the difference between assessments and homework but shall not account for more than twenty five percent (25%) of the student's grade during any reporting period.
  • Grades for Physical Education - No grade of a student participating in a physical education class may be adversely affected due to the fact that the student, because of circumstances beyond his/her control, does not wear standardized physical education apparel. (Education Code 49066)

Pick-Up Procedures

  • MYP students + siblings in front of Franklin 
  • Students wait on cement wall on Franklin's campus (not around corner, not on grass, not on rail blocking driveway)
  • No phones out, communication with parents should go through the office
  • Outer circle parks
  • Inner circle drives until they see a spot (think airport)
  • Goal is to keep cars moving, no build up on Laird
